MAHESHWARI SAREES ARE MADE IN THE ANCIENT TOWN OF MAHESHWAR AND HAVE A HISTORY DATING BACK TO 1500 YEARS. THE WEAVING TRADITION IN THE TOWN PROSPERED UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF MAHARANI AHIYABAI HOLKAR WHO RULED THE STATE OF INDORE BETWEEN 1765 TO 1795. THE MAHESHWARI SAREE WHICH IS KNOWN FOR ITS GEOMETRIC MOTIFS, IS ALSO KNOWN FOR ITS UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE AND ITS CHARACTERISTIC AIRY, LIGHT-WEIGHT QUALITY. MOST MAHESHWARI SAREES HAVE A REVERSIBLE BORDER, SO THEY CAN BE WORN ON BOTH SIDES.
THEY ARE ALSO SOLD AS PLAIN SARIS AND BLOCK PRINTED SARIS.

MAHESHWARI

HANDLOOMS WOVEN IN MADHYA PRADESH. SILK IS USED AS WARP AND COTTON IS USED AS WEFT. ZARI IS TYPICALLY USED FOR THE BORDERS.

FABRIC NAMED AFTER MANGALAGIRI TOWN IN GUNTUR DISTRICT WHERE IT WAS FIRST WOVEN IN 60’S COUNT YARN IN WARP AND 40’S COUNT YARN IN WEFT.

TUSSAR SILK GROWN IN WEST BENGAL, MALDA DISTRICT & BHAGALPUR IN BIHAR. MATKA SILK IS SPUN FROM A THICK YARN WHICH MAKES THE FABRIC UNEVEN AND LOOK LIKE TWEED.

MUSLIN

A STABLE AND SIMPLE PLAIN WEAVE FABRIC THAT IS WOVEN FROM SLIGHTLY IRREGULAR FIBERS, PRODUCING A LIGHT WEIGHT, SOFT AND SUPPLE CLOTH THAT IS ABSORBENT AND COMFORTABLE IN THE HEAT.
